Implementation of SDGs and marine biodiversity

The SDGs have been implemented to promote sustainable development at the economic, environmental and social levels. However, the misalignment or weak ambition of the SDG targets and their promotion internationally undermines the ambition and interpretation of existing international law under the LOSC (Law of the Sea Convention) and CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity) decisions in relation to SDG14 – Life below Water, leading to insufficient action to address marine pollution and save marine biodiversity, causing further degradation.
